ADAC Eifel Rallye Festival: 166 cars that, in their day, were driven by 86 stars
- Fans are looking forward to Daun Town Day on Thursday, July 24th
- Two Porsche 992 Rally GT prototypes
- Programme booklets and tickets are still available to order until July 14th, 2025
The entry list for the thirteenth edition of the ADAC Eifel Rallye Festival is extremely diverse and top-class. From July 24th to 26th, the Vulkaneifel region around Daun will be rocked by one hundred and sixty-six original or faithfully reproduced cars from rally history, all of which were previously driven by eighty-six different stars of the rally scene as it then existed. “Our idea of showing the cars of various stars this time around was a real hit. We never expected such diversity,” says Reinhard Klein, head of Slowly Sideways and the man responsible for putting the entry list together. This diversity makes this year's programme booklet once again a must-have for all fans. “The programme booklet contains interesting information about each of the stars and plus, of course, the twenty-two professionals who will be there in person.” The entry list can be found on the website at: https://www.eifel-rallye-festival.de/de/nennliste.html
Fans are looking forward to Daun Town Day on Thursday
The slightly modified Festival schedule – instead of the shakedown on Thursday, there will be an additional demonstration stage on Friday morning – creates a new highlight for fans.
Thursday will now be “Daun Town Day”, when fans can see the vehicles and their teams at a wide variety of events taking place in the Rally Mile. It will be worth taking a stroll there early in the morning, after the Service Park opens at 6 am, to take a leisurely look at the cars. The service teams will have already transformed the Rally Mile into a colourful tent city, with historic rally cars dominating the scene in Daun town centre. From 2.30 pm to 7 pm., the public technical inspection will take place, followed by the individual presentation of the teams and their cars on the starting ramp. Patron Thierry Neuville heads the impressive list of stars who will be signing autographs on the Festival stage from 6:30 pm. This will be followed at 8:30 pm by the now legendary Welcome Evening. The entertaining interviews with the stars will be accompanied by appropriate moving images from cult filmmaker Helmut Deimel. “All in all, we have created a varied, exciting and entertaining day for the fans in the Rally Mile,” says organisation manager Otmar Anschütz, as he looks forward to the première of Daun Town Day. The active “demonstration stages” on the challenging roads in the Vulkaneifel will begin this time on Friday at 9 am. The new route starts in Bodenbach, well known to fans from last year's shakedown, and then travels through Gelenberg.
Two Porsche 992 Rally GT prototypes
Belgian Yves Matton, former team boss at Citroën and rally manager at the FIA, is bringing two cars to Daun that are the first to be equipped with the newly developed Porsche 992 Rally GT kit. They comply with the current R-GT regulations and are based on the Porsche 992 GT3 Cup MKI. One of the two prototypes will be driven by Mark Wallenwein and Stefan Kopcyk, the 2012 German rally champions. “Ten years after our last race together, I'm really looking forward to sitting in the cockpit with Stefan again and driving this prototype,” says Wallenwein ahead of his Festival debut.
The VIP lounge is packed
Patron Thierry Neuville, who has found a window-of-opportunity between two World Rally Championship rallies to attend the event in Daun, leads the line-up of prominent stars. In addition to his World Rally Champion colleagues, Stig Blomqvist and Nicky Grist, these include European champion Rauno Aaltonen, Dakar winner Jutta Kleinschmidt and German champions Reinhard Hainbach, Harald Demuth, Kalle Grundel, Ruben Zeltner and Mark Wallenwein. The VIP team will be joined by John Buffum (four-time US champion), Kim Boisen (Danish Histo champion), Bruno Ianiello (five-time Swiss hill-climb champion), Philippe Camandona (Swiss champion), Jorge Ortigao (Portuguese vice-champion) and Ryan Champion (British vice-champion). They will be joined by Beetle legend, Herbert Grünsteidl, Safari legend Mike Kirkland, co-driver legend Yvonne Mehta and, last but not least, Niki Schelle, two-time DRM 2WD champion and TV star.
Photo competition with attractive prizes plus a photo workshop by Tamron
With fifty-two entrants from six countries and two hundred and fifty-eight photos submitted, the 2024 photo competition was a great success. Reason enough then for the organisers of the Eifel Rallye Festival to continue this competition for their thirteenth edition. The conditions of participation and the registration form are now available at https://www.eifel-rallye-festival.de/de/Fotowettbewerb.html.
In addition to the prizes, which will be provided as usual by RallyWebShop (www.rallywebshop.com), the winner will receive a special treat. Lens manufacturer TAMRON is offering a shopping voucher worth €500 for the best photo.
For ambitious photographers, TAMRON is offering a photo workshop on Friday and Saturday as part of the Festival, hosted by professional photographer, Evi Baumgartner. Information is available in their newsletter at www.tamron.eu
