Description of the DVD:

Featuring almost one hundred different types of cars, the 2014 Eifel Rallye Festival set a new record in terms of variety. This exercise in time travel on four wheels began with the Volvo Amazon and Mini Cooper and ended with the first World Rally Cars from Ford, Subaru and Toyota. This DVD shows classic rally cars from five decades in action on the stages and, for the first time, also includes compelling aerial shots showing the atmosphere of the Vulkaneifel region during the Festival.

The Eifel Rallye Festival is one of the finalists of the “International Historic Motoring Awards” in the category “Motorsport Event of the Year”. The Festival was nominated for this prestigious award by the readers of the German edition of the magazine “Octane”. In the finals, it will compete against the greatest historic motor sports events from all over the world including the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, the Le Mans Classic and last year’s winner, Silverstone Classic. The winner will be announced during the awards gala in London on November 20.

Les organisateurs du Rallye Festival Eifel sont heureux d'annoncer que le Rallye Festival Eifel en 2015 sera poursuivie.

I knew Björn from his first RAC Rally appearance in 1965 until his last appearance on a competitive event - the Safari Classic of 2013. I was reporting rallies during his early successes, particularly the Monte Carlo victories of 1969 and 1970. I never co-drove with him in the proper sense but I did sit beside him on half a dozen 'Slowly Sideways' events in Porsche 911s and Toyota Celica Turbos. A nicer man you could not have wished to meet for whom I think no one could possibly have a bad word. Technically competent concerning the car and a brilliant natural driver behind the wheel, he will be universally mourned.

On Friday the 29th of August, the rally world became a lot poorer and lost one of its greatest when Björn Waldegard died from a short illness with cancer. As always, he had wanted to come to this year’s Eifel Rallye Festival but called the weekend before to excuse himself as he had serious pain in his back and needed medical treatment in hospital. He had never before experienced pain in his back, which he was happy about considering the decades of driving rally cars on bumpy roads, but now he definitely had to do something about it.

The organising team of the Eifel Rallye Festival would like to thank all participants in the spectator voting of the Eifel Rallye Festival and we send our congratulations to the winners. We look forward to welcoming you back next year and wish you a lot of fun with the prizes.

In the 1970s, the Lancia Stratos changed the face of rallying. It was the first purpose-built rally car ever built - and it is still successful. The fans of the Eifel Rallye Festival just voted it as the greatest car of the 2014 event. First place went to the 1974 Alitalia car of Fred Walter/Klaus Hucke (start number 61). Runner up was a vehicle that can hardly be more different than the Stratos. This was the Opel Commodore GS/E driven by Andreas Kramer/Thomas Kalbitzer (No. 23).

Wanted! The greatest car of the 2014 Eifel Rallye Festival. From now on, fans can turn their favourite car into the winner of the event. All they have to do is to download the free Eifel Rallye Festival app and vote for their favourite car or cars on the basis of stars. The vote closes on July 26th at 17.00h.

The vote is not only worthwhile for the drivers of the greatest cars - the top three will be awarded with trophies during prize-giving - it can also pay off for those you make the votes. All participants will be included in a raffle for the attractive prizes including a Meet & Greet with one of the VIP drivers during the 2015 Eifel Rallye Festival.

For 2014, the organisers of the Eifel Rallye Festival are going striking into a new direction in terms of the safety of the cars and drivers. The scrutineering do not only check the safety equipment of the cars including roll cage, seat belts, seats and fire extinguishers but also the personal safety equipment of the crews. "All drivers and co-drivers taking part in the Festival have to wear FIA homologated fire-proof gear from head to toe", explains Hubert Böffgen, Clerk of the Course of the Eifel Rallye Festival. "This comprises helmet, balaclava, overall, underwear as well as socks, shoes and gloves for the driver." Driver and co-driver are requested to wear a helmet which has a current FIA or DMSB homologation during shakedown and on the demonstration stages. Helmets according to ECE standard are not allowed.
