Win a ride in the twin-engined VW Golf Pikes Peak with Jochi Kleint

Auktion für einen guten Zweck

When Volkswagen tackled the ‘Race to the Clouds’ at Pikes Peak in the 1980s, they built two very special twin-engined prototypes solely for this 19.99 km hill-climb event in Colorado/USA and these were driven by former European Rally Champion Jochi Kleint.

The 2018 Eifel Rallye Festival held from July 19th to 21st will be the first time that these two VW Golf Bimotor prototypes can be seen in action at the same event. And it will be the first chance to get a co-drive in one of them! During the shakedown, Jochi Kleint will give you a ride in ‘his’ 500 bhp Pikes Peak Golf from 1985/1986. The prototype has only recently shaken off its Rocky Mountain dust and you can be in the hot seat when the two turbocharged engines will be fired for the first time since 1986.

The co-drive will take place during the shakedown of the Eifel Rallye Festival on Thursday, July 19th 2018, between 15.00 and 19.00 hrs. The location is the new, 5.4-kilometre ‘Maubach-Arena’ near Darscheid/Vulkaneifel which will be used for the first time ever on a rally event. The co-drive will be auctioned on eBay from 10.06.2018 at 20:00 o'clock.

The proceeds of the auction will serve a good purpose since they will be given to a charity project called ‘Vor-Tour der Hoffnung’ that collects donations for children in need and particularly children suffering with cancer. A strong incentive for bidding high in the auction is that that the proceeds will be doubled by the car’s owner, Wolf-Dieter Ihle, before being handed to the charity. More information on the whole initiative can be found here: www.vortour-der-hoffnung.de.

When the auction is over, the organisers of the Eifel Rallye Festival will inform the highest bidder about the procedure for their participation at the Shakedown.

During the ride, the co-driver is obliged to wear a helmet and fire-proof safety clothing. Both helmet and clothing will be supplied by the organisers of the Eifel Rallye Festival. In order to be able to provide the correct equipment, the organisers will need to know the size and weight of the co-driver plus his helmet size. Additionally, the co-driver will have to complete and sign an Exclusion of Liability that may be viewed here: https://www.eifel-rallye-festival.de/files/Teilnehmer/Formulare/2018/Exclusion_of_Liability_Co_Drivers_ERF_2018.pdf. If the co-driver is not yet of legal age, the Exclusion of Liability will have to be signed by his or her legal guardians.

Contestants should note that an essential prerequisite for participating as a co-driver is that they can be properly located in the co-driver's seat and fitted with the full harness seat belt so as to comply with the safety requirements of the event.
