ADAC Eifel Rallye Festival: Entry list closed early!

ADAC Eifel Rallye Festival: The entry list closed early

  • After only twelve days, there were over two hundred applications for entry.
  • Two more VIPs are coming – Kalle Grundel and Nicky Grist.
  • Event programmes and tickets will be available to order from the beginning of April

Full in less than a fortnight
"It always hurts not to be able to say ‘yes’ to everyone who wants to come to our Festival with their historic rally car. We had to close the application for entries, otherwise the list of cancellations would have become even longer," says Reinhard Klein (Cologne), explaining the early closure of the application for a entry in the Twelfth edition of the ADAC Eifel Rallye Festival to be held from August 15th to17th, 2024. It took only twelve days from the entry list opening on February 1st, until the MSC Daun had received the two hundredth application. However, neither the time-frame of the event nor the parking spaces of the Rally Mile in the centre of Daun allow for more than one hundred and fifty historic rally cars to participate. When reviewing the entries received, Klein is particularly pleased that “the participants have taken our motto 'Rally Cars from A to Z' seriously and respected the diversity we wanted, it was made clear that we could only accept a very small number of each rally car model. It is now already clear that we can present the fans with an unprecedentedly wide range of cars. This includes rally cars that have never been seen before in the Eifel."
The programme of the world's largest ‘rally museum on wheels’ has proven itself and will not change much for 2024. After the shakedown around Bodenbach on Thursday afternoon, the Welcome Evening will attract visitors to the Rally Mile in Daun with interesting background talks, illustrated with 'moving pictures' by cult film maker Helmut Deimel. The public scrutineering that takes place in the town from the early morning of Friday and the Hochkelberg double stage with the now legendary double drift bend will characterise Friday late afternoon and evening. The 'Manta-Loch' is once again one of the three Saturday stages, with a new section of the route covering a at least two additional kilometres. "With this offer, there is something for everyone, and thanks to the support of the town of Daun and the surrounding communities, we can once again offer the participants and fans some highlights," says organisation manager Otmar Anschütz (MSC Daun), who is looking forward to running this major event in the summer.

On board: Kalle Grundel and Nicky Grist
Both VIPs have already been to Daun, both are avowed fans of the worldwide rally meeting, and both will be returning to the Eifel in August.
Welshman Nicky Grist crowned his career as a co-driver by winning the 1993 World Championship title sitting alongside Juha Kankkunen in a Toyota Celica Turbo 4WD. Grist is bringing exactly that car with him to the Eifel but, this time, he will be behind the wheel himself.
The Swede Karl-Erik 'Kalle' Grundel has also been to Daun several times. In addition to the opportunity to drive some of the cars from his long career, the 1985 German rally champion is drawn to the Eifel by one special thing: "I particularly enjoy coming here as it gives me the chance to meet so many friends."
A question of international interest that was raised by DirtFish as to which car double World Champion Markus Grönholm will be driving at the Festival has now been answered. Helmut Steiner will provide him with a Toyota Corolla WRC, just as the Finn drove it in the 1998 World Rally Championship. In addition, Grönholm drive a few stages in Erich Müller's Peugeot 206 WRC, the same type that Grönholm drove to his WRC titles in 2000 and 2002.

The advance sale of programme booklets and tickets will start from April 1st
Following last year's positive experience, the sale of the programme and tickets for access to the stages will be organised via RallyWebShop again this year. This means that it is once again possible to offer day tickets in advance in addition to weekend tickets. In addition, RallyWebShop offers further payment options via PayPal or credit card. The exact details will be published soon and will appear on our website.

Eifel Rallye Festival 2011-2022 - The official book
If you want to bridge the time until the next Festival in an entertaining way, you can do so with the official book about the first ten editions of the Eifel Rallye Festival: The highlights of each year are described on more than three hundred pages. There are rally cars that have never been seen since they last competed. In addition, there is a unique cross-section of rally history with the classics from Mini and Volvo PV544, to Group 4 legends like the Stratos and Ascona 400, then the unforgettable Group B monsters, the stars of Group A from Lancia to Subaru and finally the spectacular World Rally Cars. The book’s bilingual text (German and English) and the many photos are completed by numerous tables and overviews of starters and rally cars. The Festival’s long-time patron, Walter Röhrl, summarises his impressions of the Festival in a foreword. Here is the ordering link to obtain copies of this remarkable book from the RallyWebShop:
