Heute: Heinz Scholl / Isabelle Kart Scholl (CH/CH)
Dieser Cortina wurde als Neuwagen in England zugelassen (deshalb auch Rechtslenker) und kam 1970 mit seinem Erstbesitzer als Umzugsgut in die Schweiz. 1972 wurde das Auto dann an einen Schweizer Automechaniker-Meister weiterverkauft, der es bis 1976 als Alltagsfahrzeug einsetzte und etwas Clubsport (Slaloms und Bergprüfungen) damit betrieb. 1976 tauschte er den Wagen bei einem Händler gegen einen gebrauchten Escort ein. Ab da verläuft sich die Spur des Autos, bis es Ende der 90er-Jahre in ziemlich traurigem Zustand bei einem Autoverwerter in der französischen Schweiz auftaucht. Dieser führte es glücklicherweise nicht der Schrottpresse zu, sondern zerlegte es und begann eine Restauration, um damit bei Oldtimerrallyes zu fahren. Allerdings wurde er nicht ganz fertig, bevor er 2013 unerwartet verstarb. Heinz Scholl hat diesen Cortina im Sommer 2016 von dessen Witwe erworben, die Arbeiten fertiggestellt und es nach fast genau 40 Jahren erstmals 2017 wieder zum Straßenverkehr zugelassen.

Gestern: Roger Clark/Jim Porter, Schweden Rallye 1968
Roger Clark gewann die Scottish Rallye 1964 und 1965 jeweils im Ford Cortina GT. Zur 1966er-Ausgabe wechselte er auf den Lotus Cortina, schied im ersten Versuch jedoch aus. 1967 nahm er einen neuen Anlauf mit einem werkseingesetzten Lotus Cortina MkII und feierte seinen dritten Sieg in Schottland. Das Auto war brandneu und mit dem aktuellsten Sperrdifferenzial sowie mit Minilite-Felgen aus Magenlegierung ausgestattet. Clarks größtes Problem bei der Rallye war, dass er einen Sprung zu schnell nahm und das Chassis bei der Landung verbog. Die Türen ließen sich danach nur noch mit Mühe öffnen. Das brachte dem Wagen seinen Spitznamen ein: „The Banana“. 1968 fuhr Roger Clark den Cortina auch bei der Schweden Rallye, schied aber durch Krankheit vorzeitig aus, dann kam der Ford Escort und die Einsätze mit dem Cortina waren beendet.

This Lotus Cortina Mk2 was originally registered in the UK (that’s the reason why it is right-hand drive) and when the owner moved to Switzerland, he took the car with him. In 1972, it was sold to a Swiss master of car mechanics who used it as his regular road car but also entered club events like auto slaloms and hill-climbs with it. For years later, in 1976, he swapped the Cortina against the newer Escort. Its further history is not completely researched yet but what is clear is that it re-appeared at an automobile recycler in the French part of Switzerland who fortunately did not put it in the crusher. Instead, he put the Cortina apart and started a restoration with the aim of taking part in classic car rallies with it. This job was not yet finished when the owner died in 2013. In 2016, Heinz Scholl bought the car with this man’s widow, finished the restoration job and, in 2017, was successful in getting a road registration. Now, for the first time in nearly forty years, the car can be driven in normal traffic, and in rallying!

Yesterday: Roger Clark/Jim Porter, Swedish Rally 1968
Roger Clark had won the Scottish Rally of 1964 and 1965 in Cortina GTs but then retired in 1966 at his first attempt in a Lotus Cortina. Now for 1967, he was back with a works MkII Lotus Cortina to see if he could make it three wins which he promptly achieved. His car was brand-new and fitted with the latest limited slip differential and six-inch Minilite magnesium-alloy wheels. His only worry was when he took one jump a little too fast and the Cortina’s shell bent on landing so that the doors were difficult to open and close. The Ford mechanics promptly nicknamed the car “The Banana”. In 1968 Roger Clark also drove the Cortina in the Sweden Rally, but retired prematurely due to illness, then came the Ford Escort and the entries with the Cortina were over.

Cette Cortina Lotus Mk2 a été à l'origine immatriculée au Royaume-Uni (c'est la raison pour laquelle il s'agit d'une conduite à droite) et lorsque le propriétaire a déménagé en Suisse, il a pris la voiture avec lui. En 1972, elle a été vendue à un maître suisse de la mécanique automobile qui l'utilisait comme sa voiture de route habituelle, mais aussi dans des événements de club comme les slaloms auto et les courses de côte. Des années plus tard, en 1976, il a échangé la Cortina contre la nouvelle Escort. Son histoire n'est pas encore complètement étudiée, mais ce qui est clair, c'est qu'elle est réapparue chez un recycleur d'automobiles en Suisse romande qui, heureusement, ne l'a pas mis dans le concasseur. Au lieu de cela, il mit la Cortina à part et entreprit une restauration dans le but de participer à des rallyes automobiles classiques. Ce travail n'était pas encore terminé lorsque ce propriétaire est décédé en 2013. En 2016, Heinz Scholl a acheté la voiture à la veuve de cet homme, a terminé le travail de restauration et, en 2017, a réussi à obtenir une immatriculation routière. Maintenant, et pour la première fois en près de quarante ans, cette voiture peut être conduite en circulation normale, et en rallyes !

Hier: Roger Clark/Jim Porter, Rallye de Suéde 1968
Roger Clark a remporté le Scottish Rally de 1964 et 1965 en Cortina GT mais a ensuite abandonné en 1966 lors de sa première tentative avec une Cortina Lotus. En 1967, il fut de retour avec une Cortina Lotus MkII d'usine pour voir s'il pourrait refaire les trois victoires qu'il avait rapidement atteint. Sa voiture était toute neuve et équipée du dernier différentiel à glissement limité et de jantes en alliage de magnésium Minilite de six pouces. Son seul souci fut quand il prit un saut un peu trop vite et que la carrosserie de la Cortina s'est inclinée à l'atterrissage, de sorte que les portes étaient difficiles à ouvrir et à fermer. Les mécaniciens de Ford ont rapidement surnommé la voiture "The Banana". En 1968, Roger Clark a également piloté la Cortina au Rallye de Suède, mais il a abandonné prématurément pour cause de maladie, puis la Ford Escort est arrivée et les engagements avec la Cortina ont pris fin.
