Vor vielen Jahren konnte John diesen Lancer 1600 GSR kaufen und baute ihn mit viel Mühe in eine Kopie von Andrew Cowans Safari Mitsubishi von 1976 um. John ist ohnehin mit dem Um- und Aufbau von Mitsubishis recht aktiv, wie einem Galant VR4 RS Gruppe A als auch einem Starion Turbo EX. John baut und betreut spezielle Kundenprojekte für historische Rallyes.

Gestern: Andrew Cowan/Johnstone Syer, Safari Rally 1976
Mitsubishi schickte drei Lancer GSR zur Safari Rallye 1976 und war recht optimistisch denn man hatte ja 1974 schon mit Joginder Singh gewonnen und die Big Boys geschlagen obwohl man als Underdog galt. Der Colt Lancer hatte immer noch nur einen kleinen 1600cc-Motor mit nur zwei Ventilen pro Zylinder. Am Ziel gab es einen Dreifachsieg für Mitsubishi mit Joginder Singh vor Robin Ulyate und Andrew Cowan auf Platz drei. Besser ging es nicht.

Many years ago John could buy this Lancer 1600 GSR and converted it with much effort into a copy of Andrew Cowan`s Safari Mitsubishi from 1976. John is quite active building Mitsubishis like a Galant VR4 RS group A as well as a Starion Turbo EX. John still has many special client project to build und support for historic rallying.

Yesterday: Andrew Cowan/Johnstone Syer, Safari Rally 1976
Mitsubishi sent three Lancer GSRs to the 1976 Safari Rally and was quite optimistic because Joginder Singh won the event in 1974 and beat all the Big Boys. For 1976 however the Colt Lancer war a kind of underdog still with its small 1600cc engine and only two valves per cylinder. With the first 3 podium places in 1976 for the three cars it was a dream result that could not have been better with Joginder Singh winning again, Robin Ulyate second and Andrew Cowan third.

Il y a de nombreuses années, John a pu acheter cette Lancer 1600 GSR et la transformer, suite à beaucoup d’efforts, en une copie de la Mitsubishi Safari d’Andrew Cowan de 1976. John est très actif dans la construction de Mitsubishi comme par exemple une Galant VR4 RS groupe A ainsi qu’une Starion Turbo EX. John a encore de nombreux projets spéciaux pour des clients pour construire et assurer l'assistance pour des rallyes historique

Mitsubishi a envoyé trois Lancer GSR au Safari Rallye 1976 et était plutôt optimiste, car Joginder Singh avait remporté la course en 1974 et avait battu tous les "Big Boys". Cependant, en 1976, la Colt Lancer faisait figure plutôt d’opprimée avec son petit moteur de 1600 cm³ et seulement deux soupapes par cylindre. Avec les trois premières places sur le podium 1976 pour les trois voitures, ce fut un résultat de rêve qui n’aurait pas pu être meilleur: Joginder Singh remportant à nouveau la victoire, Robin Ulyate deuxième et Andrew Cowan troisième.
